FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions: Your quick guide to planning a trip to Bariloche
Here we answer the questions all travelers have, clearly and directly. Planning your trip to Patagonia starts with the right information.
Trip Planning
What is the best time to travel to Bariloche?
It depends on what you want to do. Summer, from December to March, has long days and is the season for trekking, sailing, and rafting. Winter, from June to September, is ski season at Cerro Catedral. Autumn is when the lenga forest turns red and there are far fewer people. Spring is the most unpredictable but also the cheapest. Except for rafting and the Paso de las Nubes (Pass of the Clouds), almost all excursions operate year-round.
What to do in 3 days in Bariloche?
Day 1: Circuito Chico (Small Circuit) with trekking and Colonia Suiza, the classic introduction to Nahuel Huapi. Day 2: A boat trip, either to Puerto Blest if you want a full day in the forest, or to Isla Victoria and the Arrayanes Forest if you're traveling with family. Day 3: Cerro Tronador and Ventisquero Negro (Black Glacier), to see high mountains and a glacier up close. This way you cover the lake, forest, and mountain range.
What can you do in Bariloche without paying for excursions?
The civic center, the waterfront, and the beaches of Nahuel Huapi are free. You can also take a public bus along Avenida Bustillo to Llao Llao and hike the short trails in the municipal reserve. For boat trips, Mount Tronador, and the mountains with ski lifts, you will need a tour or your own transportation.
Do I need a car to get around?
It's not essential. Land excursions like Tronador, Circuito Grande, San Martín de los Andes, and El Bolsón include transportation from your accommodation. Boat trips depart from Puerto Pañuelo, 25 km from the city center, and transportation from there is arranged separately or you can take a public bus. If you plan to take several boat trips, it's advisable to add transportation to your booking.
Our Excursions
What is the difference between Puerto Blest and the Andean Crossing?
The first leg is the same: navigating the Blest arm of Nahuel Huapi. The difference is the ending. Port Blest He returns to Bariloche the same day. Andean Crossing It continues towards Chile through Lake Frías and ends in Puerto Varas, so it doesn't return: it's a one-way international transfer and you need documentation and accommodation on the Chilean side.
Which of the four navigation options is best for me?
They all leave from Puerto Pañuelo but arrive at different places. Port Blest It is the most complete one-day tour, with the Cascada de los Cántaros waterfall and a thousand-year-old larch tree. Victoria Island and Arrayanes Forest It's a half-day trip with two easy walks, ideal for families. Sadness Arm It is the wildest, without buildings or people. And the Hotel Puerto Blest It's the only way to stay overnight in the forest.
Are there excursions for all ages and fitness levels?
Yes. Most are easy and suitable for all ages, because the route is done by vehicle or boat. The two challenging ones are the Rafting Manso to the Border, from 14 years old and knowing how to swim, and the Cloud Passage, A two-day trek with your own equipment that requires prior mountain experience. Each description details its level and restrictions.

Can I cancel if my plans change?
