Included in the tourOptional service not includedDay 1: From Pampa Linda to the pass
The first day starts from Pampa Linda and steadily gains altitude towards Paso de las Nubes (Pass of the Clouds), through lenga forest, peat bogs, and glacial moraines. This is the most demanding section of the trek and is done with a full backpack. The day ends at the Agostino Rocca Refuge or at the designated campsite in the area.
Day 2: Descent to the Frías Valley
The second day begins with a descent of about 300 meters to the Frías Glacier viewpoint. From there, the trail descends through the valley of the river of the same name, where the vegetation becomes dense Valdivian rainforest: colihue cane, ferns, and coihue trees, with stream crossings and muddy sections. The descent ends at the shore of Lake Frías.
The return journey by sailing
In Puerto Frías, the hiking portion ends and the return journey by water begins: a boat trip across Lake Frías to Puerto Alegre, a three-kilometer bus ride to Puerto Blest, and a final boat trip along the Blest arm to Puerto Pañuelo. These three sections are included. The final transfer to Bariloche is optional.
This is a two-day mountain trek, not a guided day trip. You'll be carrying your own equipment, sleeping in a refuge or tent, and the route crosses two border checkpoints where everyone's documents will be checked. Registration for trekking in the National Park is mandatory and is a safety measure, not a formality. If you don't have experience on mountain trails, please consult us before booking.

What level of difficulty does the crossing have?
Moderate difficulty, but requires experience. It involves two full days of hiking with a loaded backpack, gaining and losing altitude, with an overnight stay in the mountains. Prior experience on mountain trails and good physical condition are necessary, and it's for those over 18 years of age. If you're looking for a less demanding day hike, check out the Circuito Chico full day or navigation to Port Blest.

No. What you book with us are the boat trips and the return bus. The hike is done independently, with mandatory registration at the National Park. If you need a trekking guide, please contact us and we can arrange it separately.
-
What documentation do I need?
Valid passport, national identity card, or Chilean ID. The trail crosses two border checkpoints where everyone's documentation is checked. It is also mandatory to complete the National Park's trekking registration before starting the hike: this is a safety measure, as it allows them to know who is on the trail.
-
Where do we sleep?
At the Agostino Rocca Refuge or in the designated camping area. Accommodation at the refuge is not included and must be paid for there, subject to availability. If you plan to camp, you will need your own tent, sleeping bag suitable for sub-zero temperatures, and sleeping pad.

No. You must bring all your food for both days and use a water filter or purification tablets. Cafeteria service is only available on the return trip.
-
What time of year can it be done?
During the summer season. Outside of that window, the pass is usually closed due to accumulated snow, and the National Park is responsible for opening or closing the trail. Please check with us for current dates before planning your trip.
-
Is it possible to abandon the journey halfway through?
There are no intermediate exits or vehicle access to the trail: once you start, the only option is to complete it or retrace your steps. There's also no cell phone signal for most of the route. That's why logging your trek and honestly assessing your fitness level are important.
