Departing from Puerto Pañuelo and Isla Centinela

The journey begins at Puerto Pañuelo, opposite the Llao Llao Hotel, and heads west along Lake Nahuel Huapi. Shortly after setting out, you pass by Isla Centinela, where the remains of Francisco P. Moreno, the explorer who donated the land that gave rise to Argentina's first national park, are located. As the lake narrows, the rock walls draw closer and the forest closes in.

The Cascada de los Cántaros and the ancient larch tree

The landing is at the foot of the trail that climbs to the waterfall: some 700 wooden steps that hug the riverbank between successive cascades. Halfway up stands the larch tree that gives the place its fame, a specimen over 1,500 years old. The climb is optional and can be done at your own pace; those who prefer to stay below can enjoy the beach and the pier.

Puerto Blest, Lake Frías and the Valdivian rainforest

Crossing the Blest arm, you reach the port with its historic early 20th-century hotel. From there, you can access the shores of Lake Frías, whose milky green color comes from glacial sediment flowing down from Mount Tronador. It is one of the wettest areas in the country, and the vegetation reflects this: coihue trees, alerce trees, colihue cane, and ferns all the way to the shore.

The transfer between Bariloche and Puerto Pañuelo is not included: it must be arranged separately or you must make your own way there. The port tax and the entrance fee to the National Park are also not included and must be paid in cash on the day at the port.
